Nerja maintains its character as an intimate small scale village. The central parts retain their low buildings. New buildings in the central parts must be low-rise and harmonize with adjacent properties. The winding streets and shops that fit into the environment are retained. This gives an intimate, small-scale atmosphere.

Shops and eateries are small scale and predominantly with local connection. You won’t find fast food restaurants with “junk food”. Although most eateries have a local connection you find trends from almost every corner of the world.

The slightly taller buildings on the outskirts of the central parts originates from an earlier era before building height restrictions were introduced. They are no longer allowed in the center.
