Hiking, Sierra Nevada, golf
For those interested in hiking, there are fantastic opportunities. The surroundings are ideal for hiking. There is everything from easy to more demanding tours.
Many day trips can be taken directly from the village up to the nearest ridges. They have a fantastic view of Nerja. Nearby is the peak El Cielo at just over 1,500 m. For those in good physical condition, it is well worth climbing.
Not far from Nerja is Maroma, just over 2,000 m. There are very nice hikes there with plenty of mountain goats and wild horses.
If you want to take the car to the foot of the Sierra Nevada, there is Monacill with very nice tours. In winter, the Sierra Nevada is open for alpine skiing, about 1.5 hours drive from Nerja. On weekends there are a lot of people there but on weekdays it is ideal with very varying degrees of difficulty.
There are 3 golf courses within a reasonable distance, Baviera, Anoreta and Moriscos. They are not championship courses but perfectly acceptable and with green fees at a similar level. Our “home course” is Baviera, about 20 minutes from Nerja which we think is the best. It is possible to rent good golf sets if you do not have your own.
Walks in Nerja
If you want to take a shorter or longer walk, there are good variations. If you want a city walk, beaches, nature, you can reach everything from the apartment. Below you can see an example that I sometimes take in the eastern part of Nerja. It can be shortened or extended along the way. The walk is varied.

You start with Burriana beach. Take off your shoes and walk in the water at the beginning. At the other end of Burriana you take the stairs up and walk through the agricultural areas east of the settlement. You continue up to the ruins of the old sugar mill, round it and walk a short distance on the remains of the old Roman road. Then you arrive at the new construction of townhouses in Fuente del Baden and continue to the older parts of Capistrano Village. Then you arrive at the market place on Sundays and Tuesdays. You continue down the slopes, pass the ball fields, the health center and walk the last bit home. Pass the bakery and buy some well-deserved fresh bread.
Below you can see some pictures from the round.
